I just realized that Tim Daggett got his negativity from Elfie. She is a horrible person. Saying crap like "nobody wants to win", "giving points away to the judges", & only Kim understands the importance of sticking a landing. She acts like these girls just don't care. Thank god NBC finally took her off the air.

Zmeskal’s floor routine is cringey AF. Her stoic face as she prances around pretending to play air guitar made me want to hide behind a pillow in second hand embarrassment. And what innovative tumbling….double backs. I can’t believe people prefer these gymnastics. Underfed, hollow, dead-eyed girls breaking into tears when they take one small hop because they’ve blown everything. Awful.

Eberle, without Karolys, completely out of shape. Gnauck with a full in and triple twist on floor immediately showed who was the contender for the gold. Pity we did not see Kessler, the best Western European at that time and Grigoras' 9.90 vault. Misnik oversored on floor with big mistake in the first pass.

I guarantee that Keri didn’t take a twist out of her floor. I’m sure Bella did that so that Kim could go to the all around. He did the same thing to Keri at another competition on bars. He removed a harder skill so that Kim would score higher!

Shaposhnikova fails in trying to perform an important element and does a pretty shaky routine and gets 9.9 (so unlike her- she’s wonderful) whilst Comenici does a better routine and gets a 0.2 deduction. Cold War politics perhaps?

Looking back, Zmeskal's routines didn't have the difficulty the other top gymnasts had. A full-in dismount from beam, bars and her last floor pass should have been doable considering how powerful she was. This is one of my favorite quads to watch. Such beautiful gymnastics going on here.

The US really should been proud of that bronze. Was not their best night but they kept fighting and the Unified and Romanian teams were incredibly strong and deep. The beginning of Shannon and the end of Kin. Even though I was very sad for Galieva as a kid when I watched this, Gutsu winning really somewhat justified the decision and am glad she was able to compete. Shannon not winning probably lengthened her career. 95 and 96 were rough for her but she wasn’t done with the Olympics. Still, she was just incredible in Barcelona.

This matches the other footage that is available of 1985 ussr nationals. There is a video somewhere of Olga Mostepanova on beam labelled 1985 ussr nationals and the gym set up is exactly the same. It's markedly different to the gyms in which the 1986 ussr cup is held and the later ussr national champs eg. 1990.

It's mind boggling to me how every time John Tesh opens his mouth, something inane pops out. What a talent.
